Tips for pricing your class passes

Tiered discounts
1

Tiered discounts

The more classes they buy, the bigger the discount. A 5-class pass could have a 10% discount, a 20-class pass 30%. You encourage long-term commitment.

Round prices
2

Round prices

A €97.50 pass looks odd. One at €95 or €100 looks professional. Round your prices so they're easy to remember and communicate.

Watch your margin
3

Watch your margin

If you drop the price per class too far, you lose profitability. Keep discounts between 15-35% to balance volume and revenue.

There's no magic price that works for everyone. Try different options for 2-3 months and see which passes sell best.

Questions about class pass pricing

It depends on the number of classes. As a rule of thumb: 5-class passes → 10-15% discount, 10-class passes → 20-25%, 20-class passes → 30-35%. What matters is that the discount is tiered: the more classes they buy, the bigger the discount. This encourages people to buy larger passes and commit long term.

Round prices convey professionalism and trust. A €100 pass looks more serious than one at €97.50. Prices ending in 9 (like €99) work in retail, but in wellness services they can come across as a 'limited-time offer' or cheapen your brand. Use the automatic rounding option in the calculator to see how your prices look.

If your discount goes above 35%, you're probably losing profitability. The calculator warns you with a red alert when the discount is very high. Do the math: if your drop-in class costs €15 and you have fixed costs of €8 per class, you can't go much lower on price. A 40% discount could leave you with no margin.

Offer both. Small passes (5 classes) are perfect for new students who want to try without committing too much. Large passes (20-30 classes) are for regular students who already trust you. Most studios sell more 10-class passes because it's the middle ground: a reasonable commitment with a good discount.

Start with your costs. Work out how much it costs you to run a class (room, instructor, electricity, insurance, software) and add the margin you need. Once you have your drop-in price, use it as the base. If your drop-in class is very cheap (€8-10), it will be hard to offer attractive passes. The typical range is between €12 and €18 per drop-in class.

Yes, but carefully. If you raise prices, honor the passes you've already sold (you can't take classes away from someone who has already paid). Announce the change 2-3 weeks in advance and explain why (inflation, service improvements, etc.). A common strategy is to raise prices in January or September, when new students tend to sign up the most.

Check three things: 1) Is the discount attractive enough? (if you offer 5%, nobody will buy), 2) Is your drop-in price competitive for your area? (see what other studios nearby charge), 3) Are you communicating the savings clearly? (highlight how much they save by buying the pass vs paying per class). Sometimes the problem isn't the price, it's that you're not explaining the benefit well.

Yes, completely. With Bonsai your students see their passes in the app, how many classes they have left and when they expire. They book directly and the system deducts classes automatically. You don't have to do anything. You can also sell passes online, set expiry dates, freeze passes for holidays and see stats on which passes sell best. All automatic.
